Doing the Marshmallow Challenge in Emerging Leaders!

Being a Leadership Consultant has been one of the best things to ever happen in life.  Not only have I met some of the greatest and most dedicated people, I have also gained experience and knowledge to last me a lifetime. Being in this environment, I have developed a strong leadership style and capacity to be a more active citizen. I will no longer sit back and wait for someone else to start an initiative, I now have the passion to do my own thing on my own terms. Further, I have learned to communicate and how to create the perfect recipe for teamwork through facilitating workshops and teaching the Emerging Leaders course. Empowering others to find their leadership style motivated me to want to continue my development and stretch those skills.

Through my experiences as Leadership Consultant, I not only developed my leadership style but I also developed emotionally as well. I have always been someone who did not connect with their emotions too often, because that’s the way that I was raised. But seeing everyone in the office connect with themselves on a deeper level made me realize that it’s ok to connect with your feelings in a way that makes sense to you. Furthermore, working in this office has taught me about how interwoven and connected everything is. For instance, when we did the Strengthsfinder test and the Myers-Briggs assessment, I was not surprised at my results. To see how my impulsive and positive nature relates to my leadership style was a huge AHA! Moment, and made me realize that all things in life are interconnected in some way.

One of the major challenges I have faced throughout my time here at the LEAD office is was being able to dedicate more time to my growth and development within leadership. Having 3 jobs and taking 18 credits really took a lot out of me both physically and emotionally. After doing all of those things I was left with the minimum amount of time to dedicate to LEAD. I have learned so much from this office and all of the things that we do within the community, I wish I could have dedicated more time to leaving a mark on my community and society.

There is still so much left to learn in order to be extremely competent in all thing, but I believe the journey that I’m on will lead me there in due time.
