Acting with an awareness of Social and Cultural dynamics

As the late Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” that is how I feel about cultural dynamics. It always seems impossible to enact change within society or a community until you see it happening.

Working with the Godwin MIMG_7196iddle School this year is where I saw that social change in action. Seeing the students actually grow and develop within their leadership styles really made me hopeful for their futures. Further, being able to empower them to create social change within their community was also a major highlight during my time as an LC, because you see the change happening; and in some ways it was like a huge pay it forward to be able to work with the Godwin community and hopefully make them more aware of social and cultural dynamics.

Further, in order to be a good leader, you must be aware of the social and cultural dynamics that make up the society we live in. Through working with the LEAD Office, I have learned how vital cultural competency is. Although it is not easy to achieve full cultural competency, putting in the effort and striving for that achievement is something that I have taken pride in throughout my work in the LEAD Office.

Things always seem impossible until they are done, and cultural competency is no different. I am still working to be more competent in both social and cultural dynamics.
